Vancouver, British Columbia (August 14, 2006) – Canadian bands play live to win a spot at FMA 2006, a benefit charity gala that unites fashion, music and art all one stage. Arc2 Intertainment presents the top nine finalists at The Media Club on August 17 and August 18, 2006 from 9 pm to 12 am. They will perform in front of music industry professionals for a chance to join the FMA stage in September.
Arc2 has assembled a panel of judges who represent an eclectic cross-section of the music industry: Erin Kinghorn of Nettwerk Productions, Stephen McGrath, promotions & artist relations of Universal Music Canada, Mark Bignell, presenter of Radio Bandcouver, Jory Groberman, producer of 29 Productions, and Andy Scheffler, editor and photographer of Cord Magazine.
Scheffler says, 'It's so important to gain exposure on any level for these artists, and FMA gives them a chance to have it on an enormous scale. Cord's been pleased and honoured to lend a hand as one thread of this big artistic tapestry, and in helping artists reach a new level of experience.'
The online competition drew over 100 band submissions and nearly 20 000 votes with the most popular band receiving over 2500. BronweN’s song 'Eden' was among the top final contenders.
'This is a fantastic competition featuring some excellent musical acts. FMA is giving us the opportunity to rock out for a killer prize, and we plan to live up to the expectations of the fans who have shown us such amazing support!' says BronweN.
The fierce competition produced a veritable hotbed of diverse talent. The first set to hit the stage on Thursday, August 17 is TRESHELL, Rebecca Ramone, BronweN, and The Racket. The second line-up on Friday, August 18 is Smartbomb, Proximity Seven, Alien Nation, UNLABELED and noya. Arc2 veteran reporter and pop jazz singer Tamara Rhodes will MC the show both nights with a special performance on Thursday.
FMA Vancouver 2006 is aimed at recognizing the designers, musicians and artists who devote so much to their talent, while also a chance to give back to the community. This year’s proceeds go to SPCA, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and Medallion Housing Society.
