Vancouver, British Columbia (September 11, 2008) –Canadian artists receive rare distinction for their influence on the artistic landscape, at home and abroad. This year, FMA is inaugurating awards in Fashion, Music, Art and Lifetime Achievement at the benefit gala event held on September 27th 2008 at The Centre in Vancouver for the Performing Arts. Titled 'Sky 360', FMA is an airy incarnation of fashion runway, live music and art performance all on one stage.
Creator and Producer Andy Chu says, 'FMA has always been about giving back- raising money for charity while recognizing the artists who give so much. This is one step further towards raising the profile of the arts in Vancouver and Canada.'
With her infamous crochet bikini gracing the cover of one of one of the most coveted magazines, the June Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, Anna Kosturova has brought new meaning to the word string bikini. The Hungarian-born Vancouverite is the winner of the FMA Fashion Award.
604 record’s Juno award winner Theory of a Dead Man with their second album 'Gasoline' peaked at #10 in Canada and at #58 on the Billboard. Now release their new third album 'Scars & Souvenirs' hit the top of Canada Chart is our FMA Music Award recipient this year.
Pamela Masik is the FMA Art Award recipient. She has performed her live art with symphonies in Hong Kong, Australia and of course Vancouver. Her stunning visual pieces are represented in galleries in New York, LA and Vancouver.
As the founder of Vancouver Magazine and long time social columnist of the Vancouver Sun, Malcolm Parry is a media icon in Vancouver. His Lifetime Achievement award, along the others, will be presented by equally well known Social philanthropists, BC Liberal MLA Arthur Griffiths (and previous owner of The Vancouver Canucks) and City Councilor Peter Ladner – NPA nominee for Vancouver Mayor in 2009.
Over 200 artists, designers, models, musicians and dancers take part in FMA each year. This year’s charitable recipient is Make Poverty History, the Canadian chapter dedicated to eradicating child poverty in Canada. Also benefiting is The WordLoveWorldLove Project that connects Canadian children with children in developing countries who have been impacted by crisis.
