October 15, 2004, Vancouver, BC
Not just a fashion show, not just a concert. Fashion Rocks Vancouver was the 4th installment in the Stripped charity concert series produced by Andy Chu of Arc 2 Intertainment.
Fashion Rocks Vancouver 2004 brought in 1000 attendees at The Centre and hundreds more through the live web cast on Arc2 TV and has attracted world wide attention with media coverage from Fashion Television Europe , MTV Canada , and Fashion Television Canada .
"The venue, the models, musicians, the artist, the coordinators, the volunteers and the sponsors; they pulled it all together. But it was the community spirit that ensured the show was seen" says Chu .
Being set at The Centre of Performing Arts brought the show to a whole new level, as fashion is rarely seen in Vancouver on such a grandiose scale - and along with clever production and personal touches, this show maintained it's intimate mandate. Seating was contained on the main level and the local artist of various genres performed one song alone and then another song accompanied by the models and featuring the local designers.
Beautiful fabrics in blazing colors kicked off the show as 9 designers showcased their fabulous creations with 10 musicians. All the while, Pamela Masik, an innovative performance artist, attacked her 20 by 20 canvas masterpiece on stage, with vigor.
It wasn't only seen in the Centre, but all over the world as hundreds tuned into www.arc2.tv for the live broadcast.
"It was successful on many levels, both personal and professional." says Chu . Citing the article written in the Georgia Straight, "we knew that Vancouver needed a big event that brought awareness to our local talent, we just weren't sure if people were ready for it".
“Fashion designers have been hooking up with rock stars for a good cause, now Vancouver has its very own Fashion Rocks…everything happens in Vancouver and stays in Vancouver ” City TV
With net proceeds going to two important charities, Medallion Housing Society and Buried Heart Society, this event's focus was clearly on the Vancouver .
Many have indicated their interest for next year's show. The show may be completed, but work has already begun for the next installment. “I promise the event will be larger and ritzier in 2005” says Chu
And on behalf of Arc 2, we would like to extend our gratitude for participating in Fashion Rocks Vancouver and for helping to make this year's event such a success.
